Free zoo, free glass jungle, free playground: Chicago without the big-city bill.
The anchors of all three days are free: Lincoln Park Zoo (Rosie Score 89), Garfield Park Conservatory, Maggie Daley Park, and a Navy Pier stroll. Embassy Suites covers a hot breakfast every morning, dinners stay under $20 a head at Portillo's and the original 1943 Pizzeria Uno, and the only paid tickets all weekend are the Nature Museum and the Children's Museum. A family of 4 can do the whole weekend for $800 to $1,250 including the hotel.
A trip planned with you, not for you.
This is a read-only preview of Rosie's builder. Switch between list, map, and calendar to explore the trip. In your own, every stop is yours to move, swap, or rebuild.
Each day, told as a story
Free anchors carry every day, so the pace stays loose: one big morning thing, one big afternoon thing, and a real rest in between.
Zoo and Nature Museum with a built-in rest before dinner.
Conservatory morning, then a long free-play afternoon at Maggie Daley.
Pier stroll and Children's Museum, home by mid-afternoon.

Skip the rental car. Kids under 7 ride the CTA free with a fare-paying adult, and downtown hotel parking runs $50+ a night.
Five things we wish we'd known
Garfield Park Conservatory is closed Monday and Tuesday. This itinerary puts it on a Saturday on purpose.
Bring the stroller. The zoo, both parks, and the pier are all paved and flat, and distances between stops add up fast.
The Children's Museum opens at 10:00 and closes at 2:00 early in the week. Sunday hours run to 5:00, which is why it anchors Day 3.
The Nature Museum's water play zone and Crown Fountain both soak kids. A dry shirt in the day bag saves the afternoon.
If you do drive, book a SpotHero or ParkWhiz spot near the hotel before you arrive. Walk-up garage rates downtown are brutal.
Make this your Chicago trip in about 8 minutes.
Swap stops, change dates, add your own picks. Rosie keeps the rhythm intact.
