Storybook & Waterpark

A garden made of picture books, a waterpark that ignores the weather, and naps that actually happen.

Three days built for the 1-to-8 crowd. Home base is Blue Harbor Resort, where waterpark passes come with the room and start working at 1pm. Days alternate big mornings (Bookworm Gardens, where 70+ children’s books become walk-through sets) with genuine rest blocks, and the finale is a play cafe morning plus the Cheese Capital of the World, which is a real title Plymouth won in court-adjacent fashion and defends with grilled cheese.

Best for ages 1-8

3 days, nap-paced (Tue-Thu works best)
$$ mid-range, roughly $900-$1,600
Stroller-friendly throughout; pack swim diapers

Go Sunday to Tuesday or midweek: Blue Harbor suite rates drop as much as half versus summer Saturdays, and every attraction on this trip is quieter.

Picnic the Bookworm morning from Slo Food Market instead of a restaurant lunch, and note under-2s are free at Bookworm and under-1s free at the museum.

Sheboygan County residents pay $3 at Bookworm Gardens with proof of residency. Visiting grandparents who live in county cut the ticket line total fast.

Five things we wish we'd known

The 1pm trick

Blue Harbor rooms open at 4pm, but waterpark passes work from 1pm. Arrive at 1, change in the waterpark bathrooms, and you have banked a half day.

Plan around Mondays

Bookworm Gardens and the children’s museum are both closed Mondays, and Mini Mocha only runs weekday mornings 9 to 1. A Tuesday-to-Thursday trip threads all three.

Nap architecture

The resort is 10 minutes from everything downtown, so real crib naps are actually possible midday. Book a suite with the bunk alcove so early bedtimes do not end the adults’ evening.

Rainy day swap

If the Bookworm morning washes out, the free John Michael Kohler Arts Center runs a drop-in family art studio two blocks from the museum, with Mead Library’s children’s floor in between.

Pack list

Swim diapers (required at Breaker Bay), socks for everyone at Mini Mocha (shoe-free), and a small stroller for Bookworm’s rubberized-mulch paths.

Make this your Sheboygan trip in about 8 minutes.

Swap stops, change dates, add your own picks. Rosie keeps the rhythm intact.
